DFW International Airport Kicks off Year of the International Traveler With Additional Central American Service

American Airlines launches 36th international destination; Visit DFW

    expected to bring more international acclaim to DFW and North Texas

    DFW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Texas, Jan. 15 // -- DFW International Airport kicks off the "Year of the International Traveler" by bringing additional service to San Salvador, El Salvador beginning April 7 on American Airlines. The new service lifts American Airlines to 36 international destinations with non-stop service from DFW.

    "This marks American Airlines' fourth new international destination in less than a year, and we think it is an exciting, great way to start 2008," said Jeff Fegan, CEO of DFW. "We certainly appreciate American's continuing expansion into Latin America from DFW, and we hope to aggressively pursue more opportunities to grow our international service to North Texas."

    The new service to El Salvador will begin just a week following the launch of American and British Airways' new service to London Heathrow Airport as part of the United States and European Union Open Skies Agreement announced last year. Also, marking the "Year of the International Traveler" is the launch of new KLM Royal Dutch Airlines service from Amsterdam to DFW on March 30.

    "This is a testament to the power of having a strong international airline hub that helps drive our economy and is a magnet for new international air service," said Tom Leppert, Mayor of Dallas. "This is a another terrific opportunity for North Texas to expand its travel and tourism reach to another important destination."

    The additional international service announcement comes just six weeks after the launch of the Airport's "Visit DFW" campaign in South America, in cooperation with the Convention and Visitors Bureaus of Dallas and Fort Worth.

    The El Salvador flight will depart DFW four times a week on one of American's 148-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which feature 16 seats in First Class and 132 seats in the Coach cabin. Passengers can begin booking service on the new flight starting Sunday, January 20, 2008.
