Report Shows Mount Airy Casino Resort Has Most Diverse Casino Workforce in Pennsylvania

Mount Airy following through on its commitment to hire a diverse workforce

    PARADISE TOWNSHIP, Pa., March 5 // -- Mount Airy Casino Resort has the most diverse workforce of any casino in Pennsylvania according to a study on diversity released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The study shows that more than 37 percent of the casino resort's 950 person workforce is non-white, more than double the percentage of any other casino in the state.

    The study also shows that Mount Airy Casino Resort employs more minorities than the combined total of the other three casinos for which statistics are available. These employment figures are well above the census figures for Monroe County, where the casino is located, which shows a minority population of 17.8 percent.

    According to the study, Mount Airy Casino Resort also employs more Pennsylvania residents than any other casino in the state, with 941 of the casino resort's 950 person workforce residing in Pennsylvania.

    "During our licensure hearing, Mount Airy Casino Resort made a commitment to hire a diverse workforce and we followed through on that promise," said Joe D'Amato, Chief Executive Officer of Mount Airy Casino Resort.     The figures from the study, which are current through the end of 2007, show that Mount Airy's employees are made up of 62.7 percent Caucasians, 16.5 percent African-Americans, 18.2 percent Hispanics, 1.0 percent Asian-Americans, and 0.6 percent Native American. The ethnicity of roughly 1.0 percent of the casino resort's employees was unspecified.

    The Pennsylvania gaming law contains language that states licensees must make efforts to enhance diversity in its workforce, as well as create quality jobs for Pennsylvania residents. During its licensure hearing, Mount Airy Casino Resort's ownership and management made a commitment to the Board that it would make every effort to comply, not only with the letter of the law, but with the spirit as well. The study shows that the casino resort is living up to its diversity commitment, as well as its commitment to create quality jobs for Pennsylvania residents.

    The study also shows that Mount Airy Casino Resort donated $169,925 to charitable organizations in 2007. With the casino resort only in operation for two and a half months in 2007, these figures show that it is on pace to exceed the charitable giving of the majority of other licensed casinos in the Commonwealth.
